NEW ADDITION TO EXHIBIT ANNOUNCED MARCH 4TH
Raytown Historical Society is excited to announce an outstanding ADDITION to our current exhibit of Golf Memorabilia!
Ernie Jones, of South Kansas City, has offered his extensive collection of "Women in Golf" advertising photos, trophies, books, and histories of Kansas City golf tournaments, including the old Evanston Country Club, that became Hillcrest Country Club. These items date from 1890-1950 and this is a colorful and intersting display, complimenting the things from Ken Nye's current exhibit.
This display represents a lifetime of mementos honoring golf greats and the equipment that helped make them great players. An array of golf balls, unique "Hot Dog" putters used to promote Oscar Meyer and Swifts Premium, as well as one in the shape of a "foot" owned and signed by a Podiatrist. Also included are vintage golf bags, programs and photos.
There is an interesting story relating to the naming of the PING line, as well as the first sets of PING clubs and ANSER putters.
Items relating to the golfing great, Payne Stewart, include books, hat, memorial magazines published after his untimely death, and other personal items from The Payne Stewart family.
A prominent Kansas Citian, Mrs. Robert Greenlease, was a long-time member of Mission Hills Country Club, and a lover of golf. Her early day bag, shoes and pro tag are also on display, showing how women's golf fashions have changed over the years.
Included in the showing at the museum are pictures of early golf courses, many not longer existing, and some history of each. Swope Memorial, Stayton Meadows, Drumm Farm, Teetering Rocks, Cave Spring Country Club, Mission Hills and Hillcrest Country Club are a few of those represented.
The Museum is located at 9705 E. 63rd, Raytown, Missouri. Hours are Wednesday thru Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. Admission FREE but donations are encouraged.
